Alsatian Oaks Property Annexed

Castroville, TX – Castroville City Council on Tuesday held a public hearing on approving a petition submitted by Hwy. 90 Castroville Partners, Ltd. for the voluntary annexation of 131.613, 269.407, 14.131, 1.148, and 1.018 acres of land on the city’s east side adjacent and north of Highway 90 at FM 471 South.

The 417.5 acres of property also known as the Alsatian Oaks development site, is located adjacent to the Walmart store at 1151 Hwy. 90 East in Castroville.
No citizens chose to make a comment on the annexation during the public hearing.

Council then approved an ordinance annexing the properties into the city limits in accordance with the city’s development agreement with Alsatian Oaks developer Terracor.
Alsatian Oaks is a 400+ acre master planned community designed for more than 950 single-family lots and more than 380,000 square-feet of retail, medical and office space with greenbelts and dedicated park land throughout.

Alsatian Oaks has been designed to honor Castroville’s heritage through architecture and enhanced landscape features, according  to Terracor.

District 2 Councilman Paul Carey said he was pleased to see the annexation of the development site taking place.

“This is keeping with the terms of our development agreement with Terracor and Alsatian Oaks,” he said. “It looks pretty straightforward to me.”

District 3 Councilman Phil King offered a motion to approve the annexation and ordinance as presented. The motion passed unanimously after being seconded by Carey.

“The city appreciates the continued advancement of the terms of the development agreement,” said Mayor Pro Tern Darrin Schroeder after the unanimous vote. “This public hearing and action by council continues to provide transparency into the process and accountability with the terms of the agreement signed last year.

“This is just the next step in a very long and fun process of getting this thing done,” he concluded.

“Alsatian Oaks is going to be a great benefit to the city,” added Schroeder outside the meeting. “This is just the next step. It feels like it is going very slow. But, we are all being methodical on how this is all put together, especially with the infrastructure improvements and getting them into the city in preparation for the construction that is going to be happening.

“This is the next step of many other steps to keep this moving along,” he added. “I feel we are a little behind, but it’s definitely time to do this.”
